How Did We Remove that Door Handle Trim?

Installing rattle trap and insulation in the back doors and sliding door is a quick and easy project but you need to know how to remove the trim around the rear door handle. On our Sprinter anyway, that trim is holding the door panel in place and unless you remove it, you’re gonna have quite a time getting that pressboard panel off of there.

Luckily, it’s not too difficult to remove…

You just need to know what to do and then go gently and carefully so as not to break any of the retaining clips that hold it on.

We used one of the plastic auto body trim panel tools we picked up at the auto parts store (similar to this set) and worked it in behind the edge of the trim panel. Then we pried it up gently until the retainers released, going one at a time around the panel. Once you see it happening, you’ll say “oh of course, that’s easy”, but before you know what’s holding it together it can be quite a mystery.

After popping that off, the press board door panel comes right off and then it’s easy to apply the rattle trap and stuff stuff the door cavities with insulation.
