Goose Island State Park

Wow this was a great find. It’s a campground about 20 miles north of Corpus Christi, Texas and the campsites have a lot of privacy from one another.

And it’s very close to the Aransas Wildlife Refuge just a few miles to the north.

We took a 5 mile walk out and back along the shoreline and crossed quite a few bird sightings off of our life lists. Here are some of the species we saw: Whooping Crane, Killdeer, American Coot, Forster’s Tern, American White Pelican, Spotted Sandpiper, Great-Tailed Grackle, Black Vulture, Turkey Vulture, Sandhill Crane, Snowy Egret, Redhead Duck, Red-winged Blackbird, Northern Cardinal, Roseate Spoonbill and some other LBJ’s that we couldn’t identify.

We spent 2 nights at the campground in spite of very poor cell service – that’s how good the camping was. So nice and quiet after 3 nights of not-so-great sleep at our previous places.

Here are some of the birds we saw over two days…
