We camped just east of Crested Butte last night, near a bike trail Shannon found on the Trailforks app.
That’s Mount Crested Butte in the background of the photo above, and although it may not look like it, it really is a lot bigger than our van.
It got a little chilly during the night – our memory foam mattress topper felt more like a brick than something you’d sleep on.
Finally after tossing and turning a million times each, we gave up on sleep and decided to get up. It was 4:30 AM. I guessed it was probably about 25 degrees out but I was wrong. It was 23 degrees. Forecast for tonight at Angel Fire is 27 degrees so we’re at an RV Park with electric service and a small space heater we just picked up at a hardware store here. Hopefully we’ll get some sleep tonight! And tomorrow is a free day too so life is good.
We took another backroad today – Rt. 114 coming out of Gunnison and heading for Saguache. Again we were wondering “why are we doing this to ourselves”, and again we were treated to some beautiful scenery.
And also on that route we crossed the continental divide which was kinda fun because I had been wondering where it was in relation to our travels.
So now we’re in Angel Fire for the next 4 nights and looking forward to Trek Dirt Series activities this weekend.
