We made it to our destination in Arizona – It’s Gilbert, a suburb of Phoenix on the southeast side. For those of you who don’t know, Shannon is now working with a travel nursing agency – this means she can browse various jobs that are available around the country and pick and choose which ones she would like to apply for. Then, if accepted, she can work 3 months at a time and we can see more of this beautiful country we live in. This is her first travel job and today is her first day at work.
We wanted to have some time after arriving here to get our moves down, to find a place to park for 3 months, locate grocery stores, find the best route for commuting to the hospital, etc, so that’s what we’ve been doing for the past week.
We’re actually staying in an RV park in Mesa, AZ to the north of Gilbert, and Shannon will commute to work by bike.
An RV park is not exactly our idea of “Living the Dream”, but being new in the van, and new to this area, it seemed like a good way to get a smooth start.
Having showers and laundry and a secure place to park (where we won’t need to worry about getting that dreaded knock on the van in the middle of the night and being told to move) is a nice benefit too.
It’s a pretty long ride (about an hour each way) but we found a route that avoids roads and instead follows the trails along aqueducts. Shannon says she’s super stoked to be back to getting regular exercise – we did stop and hike or bike a few times on our way down here, but mostly we did a lot of highway miles just sitting in the van.
I’ll be looking for some work too while we’re here and also continuing to do the San Juan Update.
This past weekend, with all stuff figured out, we took off for a night out of the city at a campground east of here and we’ll be sharing some photos from that trip soon.
Also, big news: while we were there, we shot our van tour video which a lot of people have been asking us for, so as we get some time to finish editing, that will be appearing soon as well – hopefully this week some time.
