We are on our way! Only a week and a day later than originally intended. We had a lot of last minute van building that needed doing.
You know – things like finishing the electrical system, paneling the walls, installing insulation, trimming out the ceiling vent fans, putting in a kitchen cabinet with drawers and a countertop, plumbing the sink and hot water, finishing the commode and installing the bathroom fan. And not kidding at all – we did all that in our last week.
Oh. Then we had to move. Pack up our stuff and then stuff our van with it. We did that in pretty much one day, making lots of last minute decisions on what to keep and what to toss. And many times that day we repeated our mantra:
“You don’t own your stuff – your stuff owns you”.
A very helpful way to downsize when moving into a smaller space. It took us from 6:00 a.m. until after midnight. Anyway, we got all that done and finally hit the road the next morning.
And now about 3 days later we’re halfway through Oregon enjoying the upgraded amenities in our van. We’ve gone from camping in our van (with the first temporary build), to glamping with this much-upgraded build. Insulation is a game changer. No more freezing at night on a brick-hard memory foam mattress. A sink with running water (and hot water too). A table, (thanks Theresa and Bill!) And we have a refrigerator, a microwave, an induction cooktop, a countertop oven and more. But we’ll save all that for our van tour coming up soon.
For now, here’s a picture of last night’s dinner: Parmesan Crusted Chicken with roasted asparagus on the side and some red wine:
