Mississippi River Trail

“Y’all aren’t from around here are ya?”

No one actually said that to us today. But they didn’t have to – we could read it in their eyes. You see, we took off from our campsite on bikes to see if we could find the trail along the top of the levee on the river through New Orleans. And even though it was noon, it was still pretty foggy by the river. Enough so, that our eyeglasses were all covered with tiny droplets from the mist. We finally ended up taking them off, and could suddenly see a lot better, though it was still quite foggy.

We passed a few river folk who probably wondered what we were doing out on bikes in that weather, but they just kept to themselves. Finally, we could see the river – well… we cold see where the river was, though we couldn’t actually see it. We saw some towboats along the near shore and nothing on the far side.

But little by little the fog began to lift and we were so glad we pushed on through to go do this today (we had been sort of thinking of cancelling because of the weather). And after a couple of hours, it was bright and sunny and there were other people out enjoying the trail too. Some biking, some jogging, some just walking.

We could now see across now to downtown New Orleans and the French Quarter.

All told we rode 26 miles in about 3-1/2 hours. Here are some photo highlights from our ride:
