Yes, we found a place to stay. One of the women in our previous post was happy to offer her driveway and an electrical outlet on the side of her house. And we have access to her basement bathroom and laundry! Check this out:
We’re in a residential neighborhood and only about 3 minutes away by bicycle from a bike/walking path into to town. Shannon’s commute to work is about 25 minutes (but she prefers to take the long way around the lake at Terry Trueblood Recreation Area which makes it about 45 minutes).
And right behind us is a garage we’ll be able to use when we begin a few van upgrade projects we have coming up. Here’s what we’ll be working on in the next month or two:
- Installing a Headliner Shelf over the driver and passenger seats (we’re really finding we need more storage areas in this tiny home on wheels)
- We’re finally getting around to installing solar panels on the roof so we’ll be documenting that process.
- Our sliding bike tray under the bed needs an upgrade as we have too many bikes for the current set up. So we’re going to build a larger tray using heavy duty drawer slides. (and we may build a 2nd tray right next to it for all the stuff stored under there, just to make it easier to access as well.
- A sliding door detent to hold the door securely when halfway opened
- And maybe a snack tray/phone charging tray thing in the dash where the drink holder/cigarette lighter tray is.
So keep an eye here for updates on all of that. And while we’re on the subject, here’s a small project we just finished this week. Our cabinet drawers have been flying open with all my crazy driving when we make right-hand turns (even when I’m driving extra carefully). So I finally got fed up and found the inspiration for a very simple fix. Check out the video below for more on that.
